Instructors and Staff
Our Instructors have spent many years devoted to training in the art of Kenpo and other martial arts and have attained a certain level of expertise to qualify them as teachers and also mentors.
Through extensive testing, certification and tournament level competition, our staff has attained mastery in this martial art and now enjoy sharing their skill and passing it on to their students. Here are a few of Jeff Speakman's Xtreme Kenpo Karate's instructors and other staff members, starting with Art Bean:
Art Bean (Head Instructor)
Mr. Art Bean has over 20 years of martial arts experience in San Soo Kung Fu, Jeet Jun Do and Kenpo Karate. Mr. Bean brings practical experience in street fighting from his youth in La Puente, CA to the 25 years of practical experience he gained from bouncing and running night clubs.
Mr. Art Bean is a personal student of Mr. Jeff Speakman, 7th Degree Black Belt in Kenpo and 7th Degree in Goju-Ryu Karate. He is certified by Mr. Speakman and the American Kenpo Karate Association (AKKS) as 3rd degree black belt.

Henry Arizpe (Junior Instructor - 1st Degree Black Belt)
Henry Arizpe has been training under Mr. Bean and Mr. Sotomayor for the past 8 years beginning as a white belt and working his way up to Black under them. He currently teaches our adult beginning classes and the Sunday morning open workout classes. In addition to his Kenpo training Mr. Arizpe has also studied fencing and Tai-Chi at the local university.
Brandon Macias (Junior Instructor - 1st Degree Black Belt)
Brandon Macias was studying a sport martial art which left him with a pretty confident and cocky about his abilities and the art he was studying. He came into our school and asked if he could take our sparring class. After a humbling sparring session, Mr. Macias left and came back the next day to sign up at our studio. We have watched him grow from a cocky teen to a fine kenpoist, instructor and man.
Mr. Macias teaches Mass Attack classes on Wednesday night. His classes draw not only on his knowledge of Kenpo principles but from the work experience he has gained from working and running his own body guard security company.
Cody Richardson (Junior Instructor - 1st Degree Black Belt)
Mr. Cody Richardson has been studying Kenpo Karate under Mr. Bean and Sotomayor coming up through the ranks from white to black. Mr. Richardson showed a unique dedication to learning and training and at orange belt was invited into the black belt club and since that time has been helping to teach both kid and adult classes.
He is one of the 1st generation of black belts under the new 5.0 kenpo system. His understanding and experience with the 5.0 make him one of the best and well rounded instructors on our staff.
Cody continues to teach both Kids and adult classes and can be found in the studio just about everynight of the week training or teaching.
James Welch (Junior Instructor - 1st Degree Black Belt)
Mr. James Welch came to our Studio looking for an effective realistic form of self defense after the martial art training in another had failed to sufficiently defend himself during a confrontation.
In joining our school James relinquished his rank under his previous system and began his training as a white belt in Kenpo. He has been training under Mr. Bean and Mr. Sotomayor since that time going from White to 1st degree black under them.
He is one of the 1st generation of black belts under the new 5.0 kenpo system. His understanding and experience with the 5.0 makes him an excellent instructor.
